The Incident Unfolds
Dr. Saroj Kumar, an Assistant Professor at a government college in Ajmer and a native of Bihar, was allocated a government quarter (TC-3) in the Lohakhan Officer Colony. He reported leaving for college around 10:30 AM on July 1st.
Upon returning home at approximately 4:00 PM the same day, Dr. Kumar discovered his main door lock broken. A quick check inside revealed that only his laptop was missing. Tools like a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, and a sack, presumably left behind by the culprits, were found at the scene.
Significant Loss: Years of Research Vanish
The stolen laptop wasn't just a piece of hardware; it held immense personal and professional value. Dr. Kumar stated that it contained crucial personal documents for both him and his wife, scanned copies of identity proofs, academic certificates, and, most importantly, years of his research work and vital thesis papers.
He expressed profound distress over the loss, highlighting that the disappearance of his research data represents a substantial setback to his academic career.
Allegations of Police Delay
Dr. Kumar recounts filing a written complaint at the Civil Lines police station on July 2nd, the day after the theft. However, he alleges that the police initially held off on registering an FIR, citing ongoing investigation.
He made multiple attempts to follow up with the authorities, who reportedly tried to examine CCTV footage but without success. Frustrated by the lack of progress, Dr. Kumar formally requested an FIR be lodged on July 20th. He claims that only after persistent efforts was the case finally registered on July 21st.
Investigation Underway
Following the official registration of the FIR, a police team visited Dr. Kumar's residence to inspect the crime scene. The investigation is now fully underway, with authorities actively searching for the individuals responsible for the theft.
