India's entry for Oscar to be announced in 9 September:Homebound was sent last year, the film reached the top 15

The Film Federation of India (FFI) has started the process of selecting India’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards (Oscars 2027). Producers can submit their entries until 6 pm on September 7. The 99th edition of the Oscars will be held on March 14, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, USA. FFI will form a jury comprising a chairperson and senior members from the film industry and creative fields. After screening all the submitted films, the jury will select India’s official entry through voting. The selected film will be announced on September 19, 2026. In 2025, a total of 24 films in different languages were considered for India's Oscar entry. Among these, Homebound was selected. At that time, N. Chandra, the chairperson of the selection committee, had said that the decision was very difficult. N. Chandra had said, "These were films that touched people's lives." Comparing the selection committee to coaches, he had said that they were not judges, but were looking for players who had made their mark. 'Homebound', produced by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla's Dharma Productions, managed to make it to the Oscar longlist (top 15 films), but failed to secure a spot in the final top-5 nominations.
